Band students on stage at the fair

The Shepherdstown Middle School band delivered an impressive performance at the county fair Tuesday evening.

The young musicians entertained fairgoers with a four-song program showcasing both traditional band literature and contemporary favorites. The set included "Matterhorn Overture" by Chuck Elledge, "The Capitol March" by William Foden, arranged by Todd Stalter, "U Can't Touch This" by Rick James and MC Hammer, arranged by Mike Story, and "Clutch" by Brian Balmages.

Audience members responded favorably to the diverse selection, which ranged from a spirited march to a recognizable pop hit. The students demonstrated focus and determination throughout the performance, even as the bright setting sun created challenging conditions for reading music and following the conductor. Among the selections, "Clutch" was the favorite among the student musicians. The energetic concert band piece, known for its driving rhythms and exciting musical passages, has made it a popular choice for the ensemble.

The county fair performance provided students with an opportunity to share their musical accomplishments with the community while gaining valuable experience performing in an outdoor setting. Students showcased their talent and dedication.
