Community support was on full display Tuesday night at the Jefferson County Fair as Shepherdstown Middle School students earned thousands of dollars for future projects and service initiatives during the annual bake auction.
Members of the school's Future Farmers of America (FFA) chapter drew spirited bidding when they presented a handcart filled with homemade items, highlighted by a custom wooden cutting board engraved with a special thank-you message from the club. After a lively bidding war, Dr. Keith and Laura Berkeley placed the winning bid, donating $4,200 for the entry.
The school's Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) chapter also received strong community backing. Students presented a basket featuring homemade goods, including traditional West Virginia pepperoni rolls. The Banks Family Farm secured the winning bid with a $1,500 donation.
Together, the two student organizations raised $5,700, funds that will support club activities, leadership development opportunities, and community service projects throughout the year.
Club members expressed their sincere gratitude to the Berkeley family, The Banks Family Farm, and all fairgoers whose generosity helped make the evening a success.
The auction highlighted the strong partnership between local students and the community, with residents investing not only in homemade treats and handcrafted items, but also in the future of Shepherdstown Middle School's young leaders.
