WHS Rising Freshman Orientation
WHS will be providing orientation evenings for our RISING FRESHMAN. Which night you attend will depend on your students last name. Below are the dates/times for the rising freshman orientation:
Wednesday August 2nd @ 6:00 p.m. (Last names A through M)
Thursday August 3rd @ 6:00 p.m. (last names N through Z).
Orientation will start promptly at 6:00 p.m. in the WHS Auditorium. There will be a brief presentation and then students and parents will be able to tour the school. We encourage you to bring the students schedule with you for when you tour the school. Teachers will not be in the building at this time; this is simply a time for the students to become familiar with the building before the start of school. May 26: Today, Washington High School Counselors will mail home letters to students needing credit recovery during the JCS Summer Experience. Registration is ongoing; however, students who register AFTER TODAY will NOT have access to JCS transportation services and will need to self-transport. Register now at www.jcswv.org/summer.
Mark your calendars! 📅 We're pleased to partner with Harpers Ferry Family Medicine to offer free sports physicals to JCS students on Friday, June 9, from 1:30-3:30 p.m. JCS students wishing to receive a physical should report to Harpers Ferry Middle School to complete preliminary paperwork. Please see below for additional details.
All graduating senior students will receive their graduation tickets after the rehearsal/picture on Friday morning.
SENIOR EVENT CHANGE: The Senior Walk at Blue Ridge Elementary School has been rescheduled for Thursday, May 18, at 2:00 PM.
UPDATE May 12, 2023: Ambulances responded to Washington High School this morning (5/12) to treat two students injured during PE class. Once on the scene, emergency responders determined a helicopter would be necessary to transport one of the students. We have notified the students' families. NO OTHER STUDENTS WERE INVOLVED. Thank you for your support and understanding while we work to keep other students calm. Please contact the office with any questions.
Today is National School Nurse Day! We're proud to recognize the dedicated school nurses who make a difference in the lives of our students by protecting and promoting their health and advancing their academic success. Thank you for all you do!
Congratulations to our own Brady DesRochers! Brady took second place in the West Spring 2023 Stock Market Game™ competition. Brady and his class got to invest an imaginary $100,000 to learn about financial markets. He said he wants to continue learning and plans to invest real money someday. Students from the FACS (Family Consumer Sciences) fashion class at Washington High School used their sewing skills to bring superheroes, designed by second-graders at South Jefferson Elementary School, to life. The high school students presented the finished heroes in-person last week. The students also collaborated to create backstories for all the characters. We are proud to see older students taking the time to inspire and support younger students!
The Washington High School Key Club invites the community to the Food Truck Festival & Mom Extravaganza! This community celebration of culture and fine arts features food trucks, a bouncy house for the kids, and a wide array of unique vendors. Sponsored by the WHS Key Club and the Library Collective.
Congratulations to Sarah McGivern and Karen Hartlove on being named Washington High School's Teacher of the Year and Service Person of the Year! We were happy to celebrate and honor Ms. McGivern and Ms. Hartlove at the annual JCS recognition dinner on April 26.

Students in Mr. Harner's Spanish Class played Spoons to review verb conjugations by collecting every conjugation of the vocabulary word.
Students in Ms. Marsicano's class are starting to review for the semester exam by playing Jeopardy.
Rising freshmen are invited to attend an athletics information session on May 3 in the main gym at Washington High School. Join us at 6:30 PM to learn more about participating in sports next year.
Mrs. Magaha's fashion students are using their sewing skills on a special project. Second grade students at South Jefferson Elementary designed and drew their unique superheroes. Mrs. Magaha's students are bringing them to life!
The Senior Awards Ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday, May 17 at 1pm in the WHS Auditorium. Additionally, Seniors have received forms from their Social Studies teachers to list any scholarships they have received and are to turn those forms into the Counseling office, and if they were absent when the forms were passed out, they can pick a blank one up in the Counseling office.
As a reminder, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) can be completed by visiting >> studentaid.gov
The application is required for a student to receive any kind of financial aid, including scholarships, grants, and/or student loans to help pay for post-secondary learning. The WV Promise Scholarship, which offers up to $5,200 per year for four years for students attending a college/university within the state of West Virginia, is an amazing opportunity to help with tuition costs. The FAFSA is required in addition to the Promise Scholarship application, so do not delay in submitting your application! The deadline to get your Promise Application + FAFSA submitted is May 1. Various other scholarships require submission of the FAFSA, as well.
